A Letter to Alpha Kappa Psi

Dear Brothers,

I came upon the thought of what it would be like next semester during Fall’s Rush and I automatically thought of Mr. Anthony Corso, Mr. Matt Lamb, Mr. Joe Gerocs, Ms. Emilee Cancio, Mr. Vince Golangco, and the others that spoke during Meet the Chapter. I imagined what they were saying but I was never was sure of myself and I doubted my capabilities. I went through Rush with high hopes and pledging with dreams. Now that I’m in the active body, my hopes and dreams are in play.

The professional goal that I wanted to reach was to have the ability to get an internship or a job that will nourish and expand my skills. I received a lot more than that through Alpha Kappa Psi. We all can easily attain professionalism outwardly but we can’t internally. Internally, that takes time and practice. It’s not like riding a bicycle. It’s refining and fine-tuning the skills you learned.

The point I’m trying to get to is that I have done things that I would not have done, had I not pledged. Basically, I wanted to say THANK YOU. Thank you to everyone for having this positive influence on me. You all really are my brothers.

I recently submitted my resume and cover letter to a job I had always wanted but thought I never could get. I didnt try before. I wasn’t confident in myself before. Now, I received a letter from the Human Resources Director stating he was “thoroughly impressed” with me.I know how I got it. I got it from you. You were the ones who had faith in me and helped guided me into a better person and a better leader. I climbed over other obstacles because of you and I just wanted to say, THANK YOU.

Brotherhood. This is why you have supported me, criticized me, and made me grow. I am more connected to you. What makes our fraternity so unique is because we truly are all brothers.

Unity. We are all unified in our goal to become better leaders. I have taken a step towards that goal and I will help you take a step in that goal as well.

Service. We help out the community in so many ways. Not just by actively participating in community service, but because we are established and in existence, it provides a service for incoming future business leaders.

Integrity. It is what makes me, me. The emphasis on these morals and principles pushes me to make the right decisions. With all that I have learned from you and you from me, I feel that when it is time to go out there into the “real world”, I will be ready.

Having all these values gives me confidence in myself. Confidence I never thought I had. All of this is because of you.

Thank you,
Ms. Lisa Doan

  1. Ms. Doan,

You bring a positive energy and optimism that I would love to see in any person.

It’s enlightening to hear about how our organization can change people’s lives for the better. I too would feel lost had I not taken “the road less traveled.”

Pledging is a period of development and growth is what will make you a better person, a better leader and a better brother!

I am proud to call you my brother!!!!

  2. Dear Lisa,

You have a contagious charisma about you and it is no wonder that your future employer saw that in you also. I am so glad that you have gained confidence from the AKPsi experience.
You are setting an example for people who may lack the courage to act on their own dreams and aspirations. It is so important that we all take advantage of the skills we have learned and recognize our own capabilities.

Thank you Lisa for being proactive and sharing your story!

  3. Ms. Doan,

You truly inspire me or as Ms. McCullough stated, you are setting an example. Confidence is something that I currently lack and your letter brings me one step further to overcoming this obstacle.

Your letter makes me more excited to be pledging, learning and growing as a student, employee and person. I am looking forward to what is still to come and continue to reflect on what has been taught.

Congratulations on receiving this job and reaching your goal. I’m proud of you!

  4. Ms. Doan,

Your letter is truly motivational and has helped me to remind myself of what exactly I am gaining, and will gain, while pledging. When you speak, I feel your passion for your brothers, the same passion I feel for all of my brothers in Alpha Tau. As Ms. McCullough commented above, it is very encouraging to see an active who has been through everything I am currently experiencing and to see someone set such a positive example.

I am glad to hear that you received a new job based on what you have gained in Alpha Kappa Psi. You are a great role model for all of us!

  5. Ms. Doan,

It is great to hear about your story, especially since I am going through the pledge process now. You have motivated me to continue working hard and improving myself as well as work towards my goals. Mr. Golangco stated that pleding is a period of growth and development. I have experienced these things to some degree, but I also look forward to improving more in the next few weeks.

  6. Ms. Doan,

I congratulate you on your accomplishment. You letter is very motivating and makes me eager for the next few weeks. I hope to obtain the knowledge that you have gained through pledging and being a member of the active body. Again, congratulations and I strive to achieve to level of professionalism and life experience that you have.

  7. Dear Ms. Doan,

I can relate to this story because I too feel like I have accomplished tremendously so far. Your letter is motivating and very inspirational. Pledging is eye-opening and it has helped many people improve for the better, including myself. Like some people said “you must experience it to understand it.” After starting this pledging process, I really do understand how it has helped me and that everything happens for a reason.

  8. Dear Ms. Doan,

I can really say that I now look at all the criticism in a better way now. Your letter has helped me to really appreciate it and use it as a resource to grow.

About one week ago, I was asked by Mr. Dallezotti on whether I felt I had changed any during the pledge process, and on reflection, I feel that I have really grown in confidence.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  9. Ms. Doan,

Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, and even more so, congratulations on being able to evaluate your progress and reasons for acheiving your goals. It’s always good to hear positive stories of accomplishment due to being affiliated with Alpha Kappa Psi. It gives us, Alpha Tau, even more reason to continue and strive to improve. Self evaluation is an extremely difficult, but extremely valuable skill. Thank you for sharing this information with us. We can only hope to emulate your drive and courage.

  10. Ms. Doan,

I found your letter to be genuine and “from the heart”. Your comments and thoughts embodied the pledge process so well. Personally, I am very passionate about my growth in Alpha Kappa Psi as well. It was so great to hear your personal account because you described your experience so skillfully. I feel that while pledging is challenging, it is a priceless education that is essential to our development. I was so glad to hear thoughts. Thank you so much for your dedication, it is truly inspiring.

  11. Ms. Doan,

Thank you for writing this letter. Reading this made it very clear to me why I am pledging. The pledge process is tough but I know that it will have great rewards. Reading about your improvements and how Alpha Kappa Psi has helped you really motivates me to improve even more. You have such a good attitude and I hope I can have some of these traits. Congratulations on your accomplishments!

  12. Ms. Doan,

I was happy to see your name at the end of the blog! You were one of the first few actives who with I became acquainted. You were then, and have continued to be an honest individual and I would like to thank you for your honesty and integrity. Too often, I have trouble expressing myself, only for the fear of criticism or rejection and it was refreshing to read your letter, keeping these fears in the back of my mind. I hope there is more to come.

  13. wow ms. doan that was a very touching letter…. i just wanted to express you that i know exactly how you feel…when i got a job at a biotech firm and then my current job now at a law firm i am always oweing my gratitude to AKPsi each day i go to work, akpsi has tremendously helped me and that is why I always want to help them…keep up the good work, keep growing and stay on your toes! good luck in that election!!! :)

  14. Dear Ms. Doan,

Your letter was very inspirational and motivating, especially at this time of the pledge process. We have completed six weeks of pledging and there have been times when I have questioned what I am doing and why I am doing it? Reading your letter has reminded me why I decided to pledge in the first place and how rapidly I have improved in such a short amount of time. Thank you.

  15. Ms. Doan,

I can feel your passion for Alpha Kappa Psi in your letter. It is nice to see how pledging strengthened you, both personally and professionally. Your story motivated me as well as inspired me to stay strong and embrace the opportunity I have to be a part of such a wonderful organization. I too, hope to gain more confidence in order to obtain a competitive internship position. I look forward to feeling the same passion you have obtained through Alpha Kappa Psi.

Congratulations on your accomplishment and good luck with your new job!

  16. Ms. Doan,

Congratulations on getting your dream job! I hope that one day I will find myself in your place. It is hard to take criticism from others, but I feel as if I have grown from it as well. I can only imagine the effect that being an active would have on a person. Pledging has already changed me so much for the better.

You spoke of integrity and how it makes you, you. I too feel that I have developed new principles that have prepared me for the real world. Your note was very inspiring, and I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors.

  17. Ms. Doan,

Congratulations on your success. I was excited to read such a genuine, real-life account of what Alpha Kappa Psi, and the Mu Sigma chapter in particular, can do for its members.
As an Alpha Tau pledge, I am still in that period when, as you pointed out, I am hoping and dreaming about what my future with this organization might look like. I wish that in the near future I will be in a position to write a letter similar to yours.
Thank you for your inspirational words. I look forward to the last few weeks of pledging.

  18. Ms. Doan,

Congratulations on your new job! Your letter was truly inspiring to me and I can relate to much of what you stated in the letter. I personally never thought that pledging for Alpha Kappa Psi would help me grow so much as a person in such a short period of time, and I know that I will continue to grow throughout the rest of my pledgeship.

Prior to pledging, I had the same professional goals that you stated in your letter, yet I definitely have gained more than professional experience. I learned to rely on 23 other people and I learned the meaning of brotherhood. Your letter reiterated to me the wonders of Alpha Kappa Psi, and I hope to one day be a member of this great organization.

Thank you, Ms. Doan, for your inspiration.

  19. Dear Ms. Lisa Doan,

I can´t agree with you more.

So far as a pledge member of Alpha Tau class I have learned that that the bigger a challenge is the bigger the reward, and this is your time for rewards, congratulations.

I am really looking forward to becoming one of your brothers,

    Respectfully,

    Mr. Carlos Aquino

    Thank you.

  20. Ms. Doan,

It’s great to hear success stories from the people I surround myself with. It’s a great motivator seeing the hearing of others’ achievements, because of you and others in Alpha Kappa Psi I push myself harder. Giving up never even comes into the picture. Thank you again, as my pledge brothers have said, for sharing this with us. I can feel the love and passion in your words.

  21. Ms. Lisa Doan,

While reading through your inspiring letter, I found myself relating to many of your feelings and experiences toward your brothers and Alpha Kappa Psi. I also truly appreciate all the knowledge and personal growth I have gained from such a short period of time. I feel that this process has been a once in a life time experience that I will never forget. Through your letter, anyone can tell that you have a great passion for this organization and for your brothers, in which I immensely admire and respect. Your words have helped remind me of what this process has given me and are very inspirational. Congratulations on your new job and I wish nothing but the best for you in your future.

    Respectfully,
    Ms. Stephanie Sandoval

  22. Ms. Doan,

The reason why I pledged is because I feel that I do not have the confidence that is needed to get a good job or internship, the idea of going out and looking for one seemed so threatening.
This is why your blog inspires me so much. I have already seen changes several positive changes in myself. The knowledge of you transformation makes me only more confident that with Alpha Kappa Psi I will acquire the confidence that I need and will be able to help those that need it in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Ms.Garcia

  23. I also wanted to add knowledge, to the values that Ms. Doan already commented on. It is through knowledge that we all gain the confidence and resolve that we need to achieve the goals that we set for ourselves. I highly value the practical knowledge that my pledge brothers and I gain in this pledging process, and I am looking forward to learning even more before and after the process is over.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Petar Kralev

  24. Dear Ms. Doan,

The letter you have written reassures my passion for pledging for Alpha Kappa Psi. Every week we are quizzed on the history of the fraternity, and I have seen the values appear a couple times, but seeing you apply the values to your experience is great. It makes me think of how those values are already becoming a big part of my life in the pledge process. The letter makes me excited to come back to school and really give it my best to help my pledge class be, as Mr. Gerlach said, “The best pledge class to come through Mu Sigma.” Thank you for your inspiration.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Allison Quincer

  25. Ms. Doan,

I think pledges tend to forget that actives know exactly what we (Alpha Tau) are going through, from the good to the bad. Reading your letter was comforting and I feel that I can relate to it in so many ways. I am not even an active member and I believe that I have gotten a strong sense of the brotherhood, unity, service and integrity that you speak of in your letter. I feel like I have also benefited from Alpha Kappa Psi in several ways and I hope to learn and benefit even more than I already have. I really appreciate you taking the time to share all of this. Thank you.

    Respectfully,

    Ms. Danielle Barnett

  26. Ms. Doan,

We have shared a very similar experience regarding the pledge process. I initially began pledging for more conventional things such as internships, networking etc. I had no idea I would learn so much about myself and gain so much confidence throughout this entire process coupled with the realization that you must develop within yourself before reaching out to the business world. I feel myself growing each day with this organization, and it’s a great feeling.
Thanks so much for your encouraging, inspirational thoughts.

    Respectfully,

    Mr. Frank Dallezotte

  27. Ms. Lisa Doan,

Brotherhood, Unity, Service, and Integrity are very imporant things and are things which I look for. Like yourself, I think we all doubt our capabilities every once and a while. I for one think it is good to be able to tell yourself you can do it, even when at first you don’t think you can.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Robert Miniard

  28. Ms. Doan,

In the chaos of pledging, you often lose sight of why you decided to pledge in the first place. You have reminded all of us the real reasons why this organization means so much to so many.

Is the effort you put forth worth the simple perks of networking and internships available to you if and when? No. The true value of Alpha Kappa Psi is worth much more. As in many other social organizations the brotherhood and unity formed is invaluable, but there is still something that sets AKPsi apart. Each actives dedication to service and integrity. I know of no other organizations willing to devote as much time and effort into the service of helping individuals grow professionally. Often times overshadowed by professional developement, AKPsi has also taught its actives to grow personally and live their lives with integrity as well.

Ms. Doan I thank you for reminding those who may get lost in the chaos of pledging, why we are all still here.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Samuel Sandoval

  29. Wow, I graduated in May 2006 and I know a total of about 3 people that responded to this post. Regardless, it is amazing to know that I can relate exactly to what all of you have written.

It is important to thank the people that shape us into who we are. There are many times when I forget exactly how I got here and it is nice to know that my family/brotherhood in AKPsi was a big part of it.

Congrats to all of you pledging–stick with it, you will not be disappointed. And to all of you active members, keep contributing and never forget that you really only get what you give in life. Don’t expect to get anything without hard work.

  30. Ms. Doan,

I am so happy that you have thoroughly taken advantage of everything AKPsi has to offer. As we always hear, “You are only going to get out of it what you put into it!” You have always put your heart and whatever time you have to this fraternity and now it is paying off for you. Congratulations on your new position! I hope you can act as an inspiration for others just as you have inspired me through the year that I have known you now.

  31. Ms. Doan,

Your positive attitude and willingness to learn has helped other in this fraternity. You tell us thank you for being your brother and in turn I thank you for making this fraternity a better organization.

  32. Ms. Doan,

Your positive thoughts and feelings about what Alpha Kappa Psi has to offer is heart warming. I know that your words are appreciated throughout our fraternity and mean a lot to our fellow brothers. We all look forward to seeing more success come from this fraternity. Please continue with your positive mentality and to help others to succeed. And, thank you.

  33. Ms. Doan,

That was great to read. It makes me feel that the hard work and long hours spent pledging will be well worth it when it is over. This shows me that great things can be accomplished only through hard work. I hope I can gain the same knowledge and strength that you did form pledging.

    Thank you,

    Mr. Kevin Meyer

  34. This explains to me the reason I am pledging. Alpha Kappa Psi really does set everyone apart from the rest to put us in a situation to succeed. Alpha Kappa Psi helped so much that not only did Ms. Doan gain enough confidence to apply to a job, Ms Doan got it.

  35. I hope to come away from the pledge process and know that every little critique and activity was to help us grow and unite our pledge class to the depths of true brotherhood.

    Ms. Jenifer Patteson

  36. Ms. Doan,

This letter is inspiring. I similarly have a lack of complete confidence. This letter gives me even more reason to stick through this pledge process, because in the end I know it will help me grow as it has done the same for you.

Thank you for thanking Alpha Kappa Psi, I know I am/will be doing the same,

    Ms. Jenifer Patterson

  37. Ms. Doan,

I thoroughly enjoyed your editorial regarding your experience pledging Alpha Kappa Psi. I can not wait for my personal realization of all the positive aspects that pledging Alpha Kappa Psi brings to me both to my professional life and to my personal life.

    Respectfully,
    Ms. Klawiter

  38. “Brotherhood. This is why you have supported me, criticized me, and made me grow.”

The essence of brotherhood is offering guidance and advice without judgement. At first I didn’t realize this reality with the intensity of the criticism from the Initiation Committee, but I am slowly realizing that they are merely pushing us to be the best that we can be… and that they do it without judgement.

  39. Ms. Doan,
It was really wonderful to read about what Alpha Kappa Psi has done for you. It is stories like yours that make it a worthy journey for us. Even though I am going through some stressful times, I understand that everything I am doing will be reflected for the rest of my life. Thanks again for sharing the importance of brotherhood and Alpha Kappa Psi.

    Mr. Ido Moscovici

  40. I can certainly identify with those feelings of doubting myself before I became involved with Alpha Kappa Psi. The speeches at Meet the Chapter were logical, but I never imagined applying them to my own abilities.

Over the few weeks that I have been honored with your advice, those feelings of doubt are turning into realizations of specific actions I need to take in order to improve my abilities. Realizing that I have hard work ahead of me feels much better than simply seeing no solution at all.

  41. Ms. Doan,

It is amazing to hear about how much this organization has done for you. Alpha Kappa Psi forced you to look inside yourself and make those changes that are so difficult for many of us to make.

It seems that this organization has molded you into a more confident professional. My goals are not unlike yours regarding interning, so I want to thank you for helping me keep this challenge in perspective.

    Respectfully,
    Ms. Sara Nixon

  42. After reading this letter, words from Mr. Golangco came to my mind; “fall down seven times, get back eight times.” Throughout this pledge process, there are times when giving up sounds like it is the best idea because the alternative is to keep on pushing. We have the oppurtunity in Alpha Kappa Psi to get out of our comfort zone and really experience life in the real world.

  43. I must say that as a current pledge I too can identify with feeling some self doubt about this whole process, but after meeting my pledge class Alpha Upsilon, I know that I have made the right choice to pledge Alpha Kappa Psi. Everyone in my class has a unique quality that they bring to the table and I believe that I can learn great things from my fellow pledges as well as the actives and alumni. I look forward to completing this journey TOGETHER with my pledge brothers…ALPHA UPSILON: BOUND IN BROTHERHOOD, UNITED IN EXCELLENCE!

  44. Ms. Doan,
I am glad that you have found what you were looking for and more in Alpha Kappa Psi. I hope to also one day be able to write such a letter thanking this organization for how it has changed me for the better. Thank you for sharing such a great letter.

    Respectfully,
    Mr. Juan Virgil

  45. Ms. Doan,

After getting to know you more personally through our interview and then reading this inspiring letter, I am truly happy that I am able to be part of the experience of pledging Alpha Kappa Psi. Your quest in finding out who you are and achieving personal growth through AKPsi inspires me and, hopefully all my brothers in the Alpha Upsilon class, to pursue the same path. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Mr. Chris Larwood

  46. The way to achieving personal growth is evident in this article. The members of AKPsi and my fellow brothers of the Alpha Upsilon pledge class are all finding out who we are through this process. We are growing together, through hardship and challenges, through success and defeat. We all will come out better people on the inside and the outside, hopefully taking to heart and mind what we all will learn by pledging Alpha Kappa Psi.

    Mr. Chris Larwood

  47. Ms. Doan,

It was refreshing to hear all of the positive influences that Alpha Kappa Psi can offer to someone who embraces it. This pledging process has been a rough road, but you showed us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for your words of wisdom and I look forward to meeting with you.

    Mr. Michael Acuna

  48. Its always good to hear from actives that this pledging process will be the most rewarding experience they went through in college. We still have a long road ahead of us that will not get easier, but this will only help us grow. Lets pick up each other when needed and focus on getting through this together.

  49. Ms. Lisa Doan,

I really appriciate your input. I believe that it gives our pledge class something to look forward to. It shows that you were able to use Alpha Kappa Psi to improve you as a person, but it also improved your business skills, as most of us are looking forward to. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

    Ms. Madalyn Miller

  50. I think that this letter addresses the reason most of our pledge class is going through this process. Ms. Doan does a great job of explaining that through the qualities such as unity and brotherhood, we are able to see our goals brought to life. She is a great example set for all of us to follow.

  51. Ms. Doan’s experience gives me confidence that this pledge process my brothers and I are going through is going to change all of our lives for the better. While I originally decided to pledge for the brotherhood experience, I quickly found how much more Alpha Kappa Psi has to offer. Ms. Doan’s trepidation in regards to applying for the job she wanted reminds me of myself, and the fact that AKPsi helped her conquer her self-confidence issues gives me high hope for this organization and what I will be able to accomplish, should I manage to join in the future.

  52. Dear Ms. Doan,

Thank you for sharing your experience, and congratulations on everything that Alpha Kappa Psi has helped you attain. You were one of the first active members I had the pleasure of meeting at the Meet the Chapter rush event, and your enthusiasm for the organization made a great first impression of AKPsi and its members. The letter detailing your experience tells me that I have made the right choice in pledging. I hope that one day I too am able to say Alpha Kappa Psi has changed my life as it has changed yours!

    Regards,

    Mr. Dustin Roberts

  53. Ms. Lisa Doan,

When we first met, I found you to be a friendly and confident person. It did not occur to me that you were once in my place as a pledge brother with my same doubts and insecurities until I read your letter. The letter gives me the reassurance that I am not going through these tests alone; that every active, not matter how confidant they are, probably felt the same, too.

    Thank you for that.

  54. Because of this letter, I highly anticipate the end of this pledge process. I look forward to look back and see how much I’ve changed and grown in all aspects of my persona. Ms. Doan’s letter is nothing short of inspiring.

  55. It was quite amusing reading this blog because I feel almost exactly the same as I am going through this pledge process. There is so much to look forward to and so much to gain in the end, that with all this hard work and determination we all have to put in, I am not the slightest but concerned. I am aware now that however much you put into it is how much you get in return, which practically leaves the opportunity in front of me if I choose to grab it. Another day comes around, and I become more and more thankful for wanting to be a part of such an influential group of wonderful people.

  56. Ms. Lisa Doan,

Although a number of us are still unsure of what to expect in the future, thank you for making that evident in your blog. It gives many of us a sense of confidence and security knowing the positive outcomes of a time consuming process like pledging, so I commend you for that. I wish for all my pledge brothers, including myself, to share similar experiences throughout this process like you have.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Pedram Farjad

  57. Ms. Lisa Doan,

It was at the first Meet the Chapter when I met you, after Mr. Josh Simmons introduced me to a motive young girl, who was highly involved. It was then and there when I realized that this fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi, was filled with dedicated, smart, and highly motivated people. The type of people who will inspire me to become better and carry me when I’m down. The type of people who can teach me the skills and help me reach my true potential that I’m now just realizing. Thank you for sharing your personal thoughts, and thank you!

  58. While reading this letter, I’ve seen some of this take place already in a short time. I have already experienced a sense of brotherhood that we as a pledge class have gone through, and although it has only been a short time, I think that bond will only grow. I also see how integrity in who we are as a person and the unity as a pledge class can only make us better in the long run. We will only learn more as the process goes on.

  59. Ms. Lisa Doan,

While reading your words, I couldn’t help but wonder what is in store for my future. If your experience is any indication of what is in store for the rest of us, than I can’t help but be excited. Getting past my fears, and striving to be a better leader makes me think that I’ve made the right choice in pledging Alpha Kappa Psi. Thank you for giving us something to look forward to.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Brandon Jacobson

  60. Dear Ms. Doan,

From the first time we met and how you asked me to just take a few minutes just sit down and learn about each other it has shown me how important this fraternity means to you. I appreciate all your words of wisdom and your positive views on life. I will continue to strive forward and hope to join the ranks of brotherhood along side you, Alpha Kappa Psi, and my brother’s of Alpha Upsilon.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Carl Ngo

  61. Dear Ms. Doan,

You are truly a motivation, you make me want to continue, so that one day I can too be in your position and have the job of my dreams. Thank you for reminding me of the reason of this process.

    Sincerely,
    Ms. Edith Leza

  62. This article really puts it down in four words “brotherhood, unity, service and integrity” this is what it is all about. This is what its going to make you get to where you want to be in life. This testimony helps you to not give up.

    Sincerely,
    Ms. Edith Leza

  63. This article gives me great insight into what Alpha Kappa Psi can do for me and look forward to incorporating everything I learn and applying it towards my future.

  64. Most likely, towards the end of my college career and the beginning of my professional career I will write a letter similar to this. Although, this pledge process has been very long and hard, it is only the beginning of our personal growth and will make us stronger individuals. My resume is already looking ten times better than before I started pledging. It’s amazing!! I agree with Mr. Green and I am sure that one day we will all be thanking our brothers for our accomplishments.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Siboney Cales

  65. Dear Ms. Doan,

I truly appreciate what you have accomplished so far and encouraging others to reach thier goals as well. I’m sure you have worked extremely hard and gained so much skills and great experience in AKPsi. I am proud of you and look up to for actually pursuing your dreams because there are many people who say they want something but never do anything to get there. You have gotten there and you should be proud of yourself for that as well. I hope you accomplish everything in life that you want because I know that one day you will, if you haven’t already.

    Sincerely,

    Ms. Siboney Cales

  66. This article is an inspiring article that everyone who is a part of Alpha Kappa Psi experience can understand. It is a truly amazing what this fraternity can do and help someone grow and develop into a better person. Hopefully, I will be as bless as Ms. Doan and obtain the job that i have been wanting to get.

  67. Dear Ms. Doan,

I am greatly inspired by your letter to Alpha Kappa Psi. It is very encouraging to hear that all of the hard work and criticism actually pays off in the end. It’s moving to hear that after this expirence you have more self confidence to persue your dream job. I hope you accomplish all you want, everyone is here for you!

    Sincerely,

  68. I loved this article, its encouraging to hear everything that Alpha Kappa Psi does to each and every individual. I hope that one day I can accomplish my dreams.

    Ms. Olivia Lea

  69. Ms. Doan,

Your words from the heart are very inspirational. To be going through the current pledge process and to hear you reflect after getting through what we are going through provides needed motivation through these stressful times.

    Mr. Zazzera

  70. Ms. Doan touched on the categories of brotherhood, unity, service, and integrity describing the importance of growth in these categories. These categories not only mold a persons success in the business world, but a persons character . I hope that I will benefit as much as she has.

  71. Ms. Doan,

I can say with confidence that your letter has put words to the feelings of many if not all the members of this chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. The values that this organization holds in such high regard have been ingrained into the person i am and have helped push me to reach for impossible dreams and turn them into attainable goals. Thank you for your letter, as i think it demonstrates how important it is to say thank you to all those people who have helped us become the kind of people who try to embody these values. More than all that, Thank you for being a brother.

  72. I honestly believe that Alpha Kappa Psi has so much to offer. The points made in this letter are some of the most important and valid ‘selling’ points for the fraternity. The best part is, is that the things that were mentioned such as brotherhood and unity aren’t just a fancy motto or false advertisement for Alpha Kappa Psi to gain members–they are what has allowed the organization to grow genuinely and the members to benefit from it.

I look forward to being able to say that many of my professional achievements and personal growth were thanks to the fraternity and I can not wait to share my learning with future pledges, if and when I cross over. It’s an honor to be a part of pledge process, because you know that all the hard work, all the criticism and all the tasks put on you are preparation for the “real world”, where those things will be coming from total strangers, colleagues and superiors. I would much learn from my brothers first so that any hardship I encounter in my career will have already been experienced and overcome in my past, with the help of my brothers.

  73. To you Ms. Doan,

Like everyone else here, I appreciate you taking the time to thank all of the active members and people that have helped you along the way in Alpha Kappa Psi. It truly shows your commitment and gratitude.

Personally, I came to San Diego State in hopes of joining a fraternity, but found that my experiences with the social fraternities were much less than I expected. I was actually upset that I couldn’t see myself in one of them, because that brotherhood was what I was looking for. However, I wanted it to be genuine, not forced.

You were the first member of Alpha Kappa Psi that I met. When I approached the tent one Tuesday afternoon to hear more about it, you were absolutely ecstatic. You were so enthused about all that Alpha Kappa Psi had to offer that you couldn’t even get it all out in the short time I had before class. However, your body language told me that you were not only very proud of the fraternity, but that you honestly believed in everything it is based on.

I personally would like you to thank YOU for showing me I had found what I was looking for. It was then I realized I had found that group of people who think before they spoke, had something intelligent and encouraging to contribute to the group, while providing that friendly vibe that lets you know THESE people were going to be there for you, no matter what. I’m sure in my journey through life Alpha Kappa Psi will provide me all sorts of opportunities and as I look back and ‘connect the dots’ as Mr. Golangco put it, I will see that many of my achievements stemmed from my decision to take on the brotherhood, unity, service and integrity that is Alpha Kappa Psi.

Again, thank you so much, for myself and for the thanks you’ve shown the rest of your brothers.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Kevin Grayson

  74. Ms. Lisa Doan

This letter answers many questions that not only do I have but also my other pledge brothers. The reason I am pledging for Alpha Kappa Psi originally was to get involved and to meet new people. After being presented with the pledge process I asked myself it this worth it and how is it going to benefit me in the long run? This letter does a great job answering my questions. It is also very inspiring. I hope that I can too reach my ultimate goal.

    Ms. Madelyn Mays

  75. Ms. Doan,

Your letter illustrates values and ideals that reinforce my beliefs in what this organization has to offer. It has been a mere two weeks since our journey as pledges has begun, and I already feel a unique sense of brotherhood that is forming between all of us. I greatly look forward to seeing how our bonds develop, and experiencing the benefits in personal growth and development that you have described. Thank you for your insight to the development of brotherhood as one continues their experience with Alpha Kappa Psi.

    Mr. Adam Castleton

  76. Alpha Kappa Psi is something I’ve always wanted to do, I feel like I’ve learn so much in the past 3 weeks. The past 3 weeks have been overwhelming and informational, that I feel it’s all I need to know to be successful in life, however its only the third week and I have much more to learn. I know we have a long journey ahead of us, and after reading this letter, it just gave me reassurance that I can do it myself. I’m that much of a better person now that I have read your letter.

Evidently you have gone way beyond more than you’ve expected and exceed in so many things such as getting your dream job and building up that confidence of yours. I am truly blessed, and I hope I get a lot out of Alpha Kappa Psi just as you have. I know where I’m headed and I’m going towards the right direction.

  77. Ms. Doan,

Your achievements and triumphs are sure to make anybody more motivated. The fact that your brothers are thanked for the hurdles you jumped motivates me to become a brother to be thanked. Not only is brotherhood, unity, integrity, and service values that Alpha Kappa Psi represents and shows, but it forces these values into its members so that it can be further promoted in the every day activites we do.

While sometimes words can’t describe the gratitude we may posses for our brothers, actions can; and your brothers obviously show gratitude to you, which intern you show them. Thank you for your inspiration.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Omar Corona

  78. This article show sincerity in its purest form. One feels like a brother even if you haven’t crossed over yet. I know that my brothers will be there for me and in turn they know I will be there for them. I am proud of Ms. Lisa Doan and proud of her brothers.

    Mr. Omar Corona

  79. Ms. Lisa Doan

Congratulations! I know how you could have acheived that. Seemingly you have all five core values of AKPsi: Brotherhood, Knowledge, Integrity, Service, and Unity. You have kept these internally in your life, and your aspects finally turned out to be what you have wished for. You set up the empitome of principled business leader that I am expecting to be throughout this pledge class. I will keep growing mature enough to carry out that I promised to myself. A brother of mine, who has confidence on herself through the steps I will follow, makes me gratful for both inspring and motivating message.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. Justin Lee
